Gini Barrett Both the HSUS and the ASPCA used to advise the euthanasia of all dogs from fighting operations and were quite cautious about any pit type dogs. That all changed with the Michael Vick case. The HSUS initially recommended the dogs be euthanized and then were overwhelmed by an aggressive campaign by Best Friends Animal Society, Bad Rap, and other no kill groups. The huge negative outcry by these groups threatened the fundraising by both organizations and they caved immediately and completely.

  • Rose Solesky All dogs regardless of their breed will bite given the circumstance. They are animals people, they don't think they react. I certainly wud not choose a breed that if or when it attacks can kill you. The Pit Bull breed shud never have been made available to the public for adoption and SHAME on the SPCA for making this breed available to the public. Surely they are aware of what this animals is capable of shud it attack. I know I am repeating myself but as a grandmother of a child that wud have died had we not lived close to the great JHH, I cannot repeat it enough. they are a DANGEROUS BREED and should never have been made adoptable to the public. People shud get together and Picket the SCPA for putting an animals welfare above that of human beings, especially children.

  • Gini Barrett If by SPCA you mean the ASPCA, the national organization, you are right that they knew better and completely caved to the pressure and power of the no-kill movement. Local SPCAs are just little community organizations and some of them know a lot and some of them don't, Hard to tell. There is no direct relationship between the ASPCA (or HSUS) and the local organizations but the two national organizations do provide a lot of information and do a lot of standard and tone setting for the smaller organizations.

  • Elizabeth Weatherly One of my friends posted this on Facebook. I wanted to say something so bad but many are clients that I know would be pissed with my view about these dogs. I want them banned period.

  • Jeffrey Sloan I know too many nice, unsuspecting people who had pit bulls as pets, and were at some point shocked and stunned when their much loved, well treated, and perfectly behaved pit bull suddenly turned on and did what pit bulls were designed to do, with tragic results.
