Guy Nohrenberg Five dogs and a small child left alone in a yard. Gosh, what could happen? Dumba$$ Parents should be charged with Murder!

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - The Comal County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that five dogs were in the backyard of a home at Canyon Lake where a New Braunfels second-grader was mauled to death Saturday evening.
“Shortly after first responders arrived, Air Life was called. The boy was found with severe lacerations all over his body,” said Jennifer Smith, spokeswoman for the Comal County Sheriff’s Office.
Smith said the child, identified as Gaege Anthony Ramirez, 7, was airlifted to University Hospital in San Antonio where he later died from his injuries.
She said the incident is under investigation by sheriff’s detectives and Animal Control officers, so it remains unclear whether any charges will be filed.
Smith said although the dogs were unspecified breeds, none of them were pit bulls.
Amber Hardcastle, the child’s mother, said they had just arrived at the house to visit friends when Gaege went into the backyard.
“We got there and he went outside and I went to check on him, and I found him,” Hardcastle said, her voice choked with emotion. “I was going to tell him to come inside and watch TV.”
She said it happened so quickly, no one inside the house heard or saw anything.
Referring to the dogs, Hardcastle said, “Whether or not they’re yours or a friends, you never know what’s going to happen.”
Gaege’s mother said the dogs’ owner and his family had been playing with the dogs most of the day before they arrived.
“I need peace for him and his family because this was a tragic accident,” Hardcastle said.
She said the dogs’ owner never would have put her son at risk.
Hardcastle said Gaege was “a beautiful and sweet, charming and well-mannered young man.”
His mother also says he was brilliant, destined for greatness. She said he was on the honor roll and in gifted and talented classes at Freiheit Elementary School in New Braunfels.
Still, Gaege was a little boy at heart.
“He loved to cuddle on the couch and make goofy faces with me,” she said.
Hardcastle said she plans to bury Gaege in Ingleside, Texas, where they are from originally.
She said her hope now is, “I don’t want anyone else to have to live out my nightmare.”

  • Chris Smith None were Pitbulls? We will see if the pictures match that story.

    • Bobbie Irish They are hiding the identity of the breed. There must be a reason for hiding the dog ID. Maybe they were American Bulldogs, or Cane Corsos, or some hunting dog type, who knows, and they aren't telling
    • Chris Smith Sometimes when they do that they never release the pictures (like with Summer Sears). I hope someone is able to get pictures of those dogs.
    • Bobbie Irish Yeah, good luck with that! Though I hope someone does get ID. I know that years ago a pack of show springer spaniels killed a child. one wouldn't think of Springers as dangerous , but there is a problem in the breed called "Springer Rage Syndrome" that runs in certain bloodlines. Definitely genetic, as in some Pitbull lines.
    • Chris Smith I know other breeds attack as well. Cocker Spaniels sometimes have intense aggression. You get some Goldens, Labs, and Shepherds that also have to be euthanized for aggression. Most people with aggressive dogs of any breed besides Pitbulls will euthanize them because they know it's very abnormal behavior. Euthanizing an aggressive Pitbull is often seen as a failure to train, nurture, and lead or rehabilitate/contain on the part of the owner.
    • Paris Wolf This was a pack attack. More likely not rage syndrome. I had a male bloodhound I put to sleep for rage syndrome after he attacked me at 9 mons/ 130 pounds out of the blue. He had a seizure issue that triggered it.
    • Lisa Heart Why are you all surprised they AREN'T pit bulls? ALL dogs bite. I have experience with aggressive dogs and none of them were/are pit bulls. It's ignorance that allows many of these tragedies to happen. Supervision would have prevented this senseless tragedy as it would have with Mickey.
    • Lisa Heart The article I read called it an accident. If they were pit bulls, it would have been deemed a massacre. Another fatality involved Shiba Inus killing an infant. That was chalked up to rough play. Seriously? The bias is downright ridiculous. ALL DOGS BITE. ALL DOGS CAN BE DANGEROUS - even the little ones. A Shih Tzu gouged the eye out of a toddler. When people are held responsible for their actions you will see change.
    • John Cecil Lisa, why is it so hard for you to understand that pit bulls have higher rates of aggression, attacks, serious injury and death? Their owners are the most irresponsible and misinformed, resulting in pit bulls flooding shelters. You are just dumb to think all dogs are the same. Quit promoting dangerous dogs and blaming everyone else.
    • Chris Smith Oh, I don't know that they aren't Pitbulls. I haven't seen any pictures. I would make that assumption because most of the DEATHS are from Pitbull lines. Kevin was surrounded by adults and other kids which is probably why he isn't dead. Mickey should have been euthanized after he killed the puppy, We will see change when people stop making excuses for attacking and mauling dogs,
    • Protect Children From Pit Bulls And Other Dangerous Dogs Lisa Heart, You are correct that when people are held responsible for their actions things will change. What will happen is people will recognize as you say, any dog can bite. Common sense is then that they will choose those that will do the least damage. An example would be where a Shih Tzu gouge a chills eye out and in the same exact incident had it been a Pit bull the child would be dead. You see it is not the fact that all dogs can bite that makes pit bulls also OK, rather it is the reverse. It is the fact that all dogs can bite that makes them an extreme danger and a irresponsible choice of pet.

    • Protect Children From Pit Bulls And Other Dangerous Dogs Lisa Heart Please post the links to the Shiba Inus killing and the Shih Tzu eye gouging. I will contact both the reporter and the animal control officer in that area and see if I can get the particulars. All incidents of injury like this should be made known to the public.

  • Kay Johnson The mother who was present at this murder (this is a murder because non-dangerous dogs DON'T DO THIS) is a felony investigator for the Comal County DA's office, and she is already throwing this off as an accident and shielding the dog owners. She is in a position of authority where a crime has been committed, and she is trying to hide the dog owner's guilt. These are dangerous dogs and they will do it again if the owners are allowed to get away with it. What does this say for the safety of Comal County citizens when a DA's office investigator is doing something like this and putting them at risk? Will there be justice for this little boy?

    • Paris Wolf I posted on the comments and it still has not been aoproved by the moderators . Hmmm?
    • Paris Wolf I believe there is cause to bring in outside investigators not connected to the area because of the glaring conflict of interest there seems to be. This child needs justice. And that community needs to be safe away from this pack of killer dogs.
    • Kay Johnson So now I am hearing that the dog owner is a veterinarian. I also wonder if they are also a dog breeder too. That means that they likely give "expert" testimony in local dangerous dog cases. At the least they influence that DAs office and they have already done exactly that, from the statements of the DAs felony prosecutor which is obviously fed to them from the dog owner as an EXCUSE. The dogs likely have monetary value and they want to keep them for monetary interest. Conflict of interest and it's happening in too many places around the country, but Texas seems to really be a problem state for victims. The children of this county need to have advocates for them, not against them.

  • Rebecca Furr and yet at the convenience store where I stopped last night there was a petition to start a bounty of $15 a head on COYOTES! How many kids have coyotes killed this year? Compare that to how many people DOMESTIC DOGS kill EVERY year. How about a bounty on the heads of free roaming domestic dogs with a bonus bounty for pit bulls?
  • Britton Willis Parker So what breeds were they??

  • Jeanette Birdy Gates Another incredibly weird story! Can't believe they are deciding whether there should be criminal charges! Maybe that little boy would like somebody to be responsible for his horrific, painful, slow death! This world has gone crazy!
  • Gary Young They called it an "accident".. there is no way it was an accident..
  • Paris Wolf The laws need to be tougher on bite cases, to ensure the safety of people in the bullseye of these dogs.

It is crazy to return dangerous dogs back to their owners or to be rehomed. People, pets, livestock get mauled and killed by dogs that have attacked before all the time. Preventable tragedies.

Parents of children should steer clear of these dangerous dogs, they are horrible dogs to be family pets.

    • Kay Johnson I saw that Brenda, and I am angry and disgusted. Just think she is a felony investigator for the Comal County DA's office and she is saying it is typical for dogs to do this. What does this tell the public about her bias in investigations related to dog attacks?

  • Paris Wolf Manslaughter.
  • Helen Munro I am appalled by yet another dog related death. I personally do not like them; however Guy N, your comment re parents being "charged with murder" is bonkers and unnecessarily extreme. They have a life sentence in the loss of their child; the fact that the mother is in the legal profession (if I understand the emotive language correctly, is irrelevant. What is wrong is that once these animals have tasted human blood, whatever made them "turn", they will do it again and need putting down whatever the mother or the owner says. A group of dogs together becomes a pack - a pack hunts for its food - etc etc. Appalling tragedy but not an accident or murder - dogs are dangerous unpredictable animals in any circumstances and allowing the child to be alone with them was unwise and thoughtless.
  • Dawn Nicewonder An animal is an animal. Any dog will turn. That poor baby. I feel heartbroken for his family.
  • Marisa Nordstrom The mother told KAST.com (comments closed there): Referring to the dogs, Hardcastle said, “Whether or not they’re yours or a friends, you never know what’s going to happen.” The breed is "unspecified" but KAST.com reporter "specified" that none of the dogs were pit bulls. Isn't that interesting? The mother's comments are flatout WEIRD, evasive, protective of the dogs' owner and the dogs. The reporters and authorities are all protecting these "unspecified dogs that are specified as not pit bulls." People, this STINKS!!! So what are they: Cane Corsos! American Bulldogs! American Staffordshires! Catahoula Leopard Dogs! Chihuahua's. You liars. When your own mother gives you to the dogs, you got no one.
