Linda Perry And besides those numbers, what we do suspect is that there are many identifications that slip through the stats. Many times after an attack, SOME owners try to say that their dogs are 'lab mix' etc..and not claim the title of pit bull. So the numbers are higher than even those high numbers. and then there are the pits that are not found, owners that run --more unidentified pits.

COMPARING THE BREEDS OF DOGS....how about this ? Here is a legitimate question guys and gals. Anyone have the true answer to this ? I want to compare how many pit bull owners are killed by pit bulls AS opposed to how many poodle owners are killed by their own poodles. Comparing how many collie owners are killed by their own collies as opposed to pit bull owners killed by their own pit bulls. Anyone have the news videos , the numbers on this? This is just a guess but I believe that you will not find ANY poodles that killed their owners and not find any collies that killed their owners and you wont find any King Charles Cavealiers who killed their owners but you will find TONS of pit bull owners killed by their own pit bulls and find many children of pit bull owners killed by their own friendly pit bulls. Got numbers? Can you verify the other breeds (poodles etc, ) with news videos or police reports or news reports? Anyone? Anyone?

  • Jeff Borchardt Poodle owners don't carry around hot cawfee Linda. Lol
  • Jeffrey Sloan The total number of dogs that maul their owners to death, apart from pit bulls, is at or near zero for pretty much any other breed.
  • Jean Olszewski Let's not forget how many are mauled by their loving pit bulls, but survive, many times calling the Police to shoot their pit bull., but only if it's attacking them , not a neighbor . Then they want it saved .
  • Heather Jackson It's pointless, they just use the same old excuse of " they raised them wrong " blah blah blah
  • Jan Smith So far this year, 'wonderful family pet' pit bull types are the only ones that have killed children. The fourth one died yesterday

  • Linda Perry Thanks everyone. ...right on target. And thanks for the list, Jan.
  • Julia Lewis Yes, thanks for the list. Thank goodness you are keeping tabs on the situation.
  • June Mason I sometimes wonder if pit bull owners only get these types of dogs so they can play the victim and endlessly complain about how misunderstood they think the breed is and if they actually enjoy the negative attention their dogs receive..attention seekin...See More
  • Jeff Borchardt Hey Angie Robertson, what did the 2-month-old in Texas do to provoke the family pit bull to have him kill him yesterday? The father ran outside for a minute to turn on the sprinkler. Baby was in the bouncey seat. I thought pit bulls used to be nanny dogs?
  • Linda Perry Angie Robertson -- Here is a video for you. I agree with you dogs attack for a reason. Here is your video, spread the word. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UujguZyd3UA

  • Linda Perry That's a good question Jeff. I OFFER these instructions to any owners of pit bulls In that particular case, the dog attacked because the baby was being a baby--swinging in the swing seat. Pit bulls do come with set of instructions, 1. Do not breathe around pit bull. 2. Do not act fast, or run or raise your hands; do not sit next to a baby, do not hold a baby. 3. Do not except the pit bull to be like a regular dog. They are not regular dogs; these dogs are fighting-breed dogs, mainly, they are like wild animals-unpredictable (except that most wild animals give warning and pit bull don't give warning before they try to kill you) . There were five more pages of instructions but I can't repost them all here. This one--the most important one... Remember, the pit bull is trained to kill , to rip flesh from bone. If you want it to do anything different, you need to just permanently isolate the pit bull from all other animals and from all human beings. Problem solved. Do not get a pit bull as a pet because eventually, that so-called pet will try to kill someone or some animal.
  • Susan DeVilder I would like to know how many Shih tzu owners are killed by their dogs so I can know if I need to protect myself.
  • Dennis Ballance Sr Shish Tzu 0 death in 30 years Susan DeVilder
  • Linda Perry Thanks for the list Dennis Ballance Sr I copied one of the most important parts of that list. Seems the pit bulls, indeed , have cornered the market (but these are all killings not just killings of owners)...
  • Dennis Ballance Sr Yes but 0 kills means 0 owners so it answers Susan DeVilder question
  • Susan DeVilder Thank you Dennis Ballance Sr. I will sleep well tonight.
  • Dennis Ballance Sr You are welcome
  • Linda Perry We have a chihuahua , and I can rest knowing that no chihuahua, in the history of dogs, has ever killed its' owner. Everyone post your dog and let us know if your dog breed type has ever killed its' owner? Love to see this list.
  • Susan DeVilder Shih tzu, has never killed its owner!
  • Suzanne Bryant Not even pit bull pushers and apologists can compare their dogs with other dogs. They have to compare them to guns, humans, drunk drivers, coconuts falling, etc., etc. because comparing pits and their derivatives to normal dogs doesn't work since there's simply no comparison to any other breeds that routinely maul and kill people. That dog just don't hunt... So to speak.
  • Linda Perry So, Angie, you don't like facts? You don't like it that this thread is only about counting the numbers of news stories true articles that show how many pit bulls killed their owners as opposed to how many poodles have killed their owners? What is it about the facts that you do not like?
  • Dennis Ballance Sr I think Angie Robertson like us she reads everything we post and wants someone to talk to her. I know you are lonely talking to your pit threw a anti shark cage would get lonely. Your pits must be support dogs to help get over your fear of the little rat dogs wear high top boots that work to
  • Linda Perry I guess I should unblock her then so she can finish reading what I wrote. I'll have to think that over.
  • Lynne Smith Her posts have been deleted.
  • Jeff Borchardt Looks like Angie has left the building.
  • Linda Perry She probably deleted them, I know that I blocked her after reading some of her name-calling posts.
  • Jeff Borchardt The admins removed her. Hope somebody got the screenshot
  • Sarah Howard buh bye
  • Jean Olszewski Darn , I missed it . My friend has about 8 shitzus .i can walk up to her porch and none of them ever attacked. Thank God they were not out there when a neighbor 's pit bull chased a cat on her porch. She grabbed the pit , opened its mouth and got the cat out. Unfortunately , the poor kitty died.
  • Joanna McGinn Linda, my estimate on a quick glance... is that 2/3 of the PB deaths are within the family circle... not necessarily the owner him/herself although it DOES happen and it seems to be on the rise.... but the heaviest burden is on their children. This is why I call having a PB in a home with children 'a form of retro-active birth control'. mrph.
  • Joanna McGinn I had a friend back in California who had a foster go after her several times and the last time did a job on her arm so she had, with tears, to put him down, but he went from her arms and was loved. You see sometimes 'LOVE' is just not the magic cure-all for all dogs. This little guy had been allowed to be hit to awaken him by the former owner's grandchildren from puppyhood. In normal dogs, cruelty does make a differerence but the PB brings over 400 years (that I can vidate) breeding to attack without warning OR provocation.
  • Jeffrey Sloan Linda Perry - where did those stats come from, and how old are they? The latest North American figures I've seen look like this:
  • Linda Perry Dennis Balance Dennis Ballance Sr posted the stats, I cut the stats to show that shortened list. The orginal list was very long. This list that I showed shows pit bulls etc. i will look at the list you showed there.
  • Linda Perry You are right, Jeffrey , the stats are higher in your post .What date are those stats from?
  • Jeffrey Sloan OK that's a few years old - here is a more recent update: http://17barks.blogspot.com/.../dog-attack-report-1q-2015...

I read the entire thread, "Neighbor's pit bull attacked my dog!" It's SICK that family has to live next to that fugly...

  • Linda Perry Thanks Jeffrey
  • Dennis Ballance Sr You may want to read the top part of the post to see whats included in stats
  • Linda Perry Jeffrey , who created and runs that website there the 17 barks
  • Jeffrey Sloan No, that's my friend Jake. I just send him material
  • Dennis Ballance Sr Compiled by the editor of ANIMAL PEOPLE from press accounts since 1982, this
table covers only attacks by dogs of clearly identified breed type or ancestry, as designated by
animal control officers or others with evident expertise,
  • Linda Perry Thanks. Yes, I like the charts included, gives you a really quick glance at exactly where the problem dogs are -which breeds.
  • Jeffrey Sloan Exactly Dennis - so that pretty much destroys the nutter claim that pit bulls are blamed for the attacks done by other breeds.
  • Dennis Ballance Sr That is why this list is lower than most if breed is not posotive id not included
  • Linda Perry And besides those numbers, what we do suspect is that there are many identifications that slip through the stats. Many times after an attack, SOME owners try to say that their dogs are 'lab mix' etc..and not claim the title of pit bull. So the numbers are higher than even those high numbers. and then there are the pits that are not found, owners that run --more unidentified pits.
  • Dennis Ballance Sr You know the deal Jeffrey if the same pit from a feel good pit story attacked someoe it would no longer be a pit
  • Jeffrey Sloan Exactly, you know how it works. If it barks when the trailer catches fire, it's a "hero" pit bull. When it mauls a toddler, it immediately becomes a "lab mix"
  • Linda Perry Thanks people, see you later.
  • Dennis Ballance Sr Later Linda have a good one
  • Tony Solesky Actually you can get the total number of fatalities by all dogs and the breeds from dogsbite. The answer to the question is every other dog breed that is not on that list. I do not believe there are more then 1 dozen breeds that have caused death by actuallyattacking
  • Laurel Davis I have a pug--tell me if you come across any pugs that have killed their owners--I may have to start sleeping with one eye open.
  • Jeffrey Sloan I think you can sleep soundly Laurel Davis
  • Joanna McGinn the great thing about Cairns, Scotties and Border Terriers is that their spine is constructed with their tail a part of it...so when they get in a kerfuffle, all you have to do is pull them up by their tails....
  • Julia Lewis Joanna, do you mean those terriers are constructed differently from ordinary dogs? I thought tails were always part of the spine!!!
  • Jan Smith You're right Julia, and you should never pick any dog up by its tail.
  • Laurel Davis http://scottiechronicles.com/scottish-terriers-101/

You can pick us up by our tails. But don’t try to do this A) if you don’t know us and B) if we’re little babies. We need our tails to get all situated before you pull us around by them. Actually, you

  • Lesley Karen Luscombe One of their favourite remarks is 'IF a Chihuahua was a big dog like a Pit Bull, it would do the same amount of damage', as though that in itself can fully explain why a Chihuahua has not killed anyone.

We need to understand this and explain it slowly
     and carefully to them.

This is not a matter of SIZE of the dog (and Pit Bulls are actually a MEDIUM breed, not a LARGE breed). It is a matter of the size of the FIGHT in the dog.

A Pit Bull sized Chihuahua would still be a Chihuahua. It would not be possessed of the fighting, aggressive, pain-enduring and death-inflicting genetic messages that run deep in such a dog designed by man and perpetuated by man in FAVOUR of such dangerous criteria.

Conversely, a Chihuahua sized Pit Bull dog would be a very nasty 'ankle biter' indeed, although one could easily punt it across the room if an attack began. BUT, place this imaginary Chi-sized Pit dog up against a baby's face or throat, and it would be a whole different ball-game.

Kills by other dog breeds are unusual. They HAPPEN, but they are unusual. (I do not include kills by Rottweilers in that; they are dangerous dogs by nature and should be made subject to the same longed-for legislations that we would wish for Pit Bull dogs). Those kills by other dog breeds are usually carried out by larger breed dogs, and that IS a matter of size and strength. But the RARITY tells us that those dogs were acting out of character, that they killed because of a REASON and a CATALYST could be found (usually poor breeding, lack of training and socialisation, cruelty, isolation, chaining, fear, guarding issues). But many of the Pit dogs that have killed or cruelly disfigured someone were NOT subject to those catalysts above; they killed or they disfigured because THEY ENJOYED IT. Looking for catalysts rarely applies. The wise look to the messages in the dogs blood.

Joanna McGinn has it right with regards to Terriers and their tails, by the way. Alongside the many other Terrier breeds (terriere from the French, meaning the earth, to work in the earth), the traditional Jack Russell terriers, particularly the Parsons Russells, were supposed to be left with their long tails, rather than docking them for cosmetic purposes. The tails were a valuable 'handle' to grasp when the dog was working the earth, went too far, and could not turn around in the burrow it was working. The handler would reach in and extract his dog using its tail. The tail was a lever, rather than a lifting mechanism.
