Lesley Karen Luscombe 12 hrs Both 'sides' want to know the truth here. If it WASN'T Pit Bulls or their mixes, then give those dog types to those who justifiably suspect that it WAS Pit Bull Mixes that did this thing, as they so usually feature in the slaying or mutilation of children. Other breeds and types have killed, yes, but they are rare and unusual. If this be one of those occasions, then this is the time to put forward such a case and add this poor boy's death TO that list of rare and unusual cases of death by dogs OTHER than Pit dogs or Pit Mixes. Don't let this be a cover-up that benefits no-one.

  • Lesley Karen Luscombe A dear Facebook friend of mine says that the dog of choice for the community, and the dog that inspires mucho dollars and is surmounted by various breeders and trainers, is the Malinois? SUCH a popular dog in that area...

    Perhaps Malinois protectionis
m is just as strong as Pit Bull protectionism? And perhaps for good reason, the best reason of all being Mammon?

Perhaps these dogs were an unhappy breeding accident/mistake (one dam, one cluster of adolescent pups) OR they were a deliberate breeding exercise, combining Mals with another breed of dog in order to create an ultimate guarding/protecting dog?

It will come out. Human nature. It MUST come out, for the sake and safety of that area. Let's hope someone has a conscience, someone who KNOWS what those dogs were/are, and that that someone will (even anonymously) tell everyone what those dogs were.

  • Lesley Karen Luscombe Mind you - if one thinks about the term 'mixed breed(s)', it COULD indicate that the attacking dogs were not cross-breeds at ALL, but rather a selection of pure bred dogs, a MIXTURE of dog breeds alongside each other..... The term 'mixed breed(s)' is confusing, obfuscating and possessed of dual meaning.

  • Julia Lewis Yes, I think it means more than two breeds.

  • Lesley Karen Luscombe Probably some nice benevolent doggie breeds, like a couple of Cane Corso, two Presa's, and a licky-lick Bully Kutta. *sarcasm*

  • Laurie Anne "Mixed breed" in the US means dogs of indeterminate kinds features of some, features of others. Not mutts. If it was different different of dogs, they would have used the phrase "different dog breeds." Five dogs? I'm guessing the dogs are related. Staffies? (sarcasm) Given the prolonged attack ending in death - Rottie? Cane Corso? It matters very much what kind they are.

  • Lesley Karen Luscombe They like to claim that American Bulldogs aren't Pit Bulls, so maybe it's a cluster of THEM.... I agree that they are probably related - ma or pa and a few nasty offspring.

  • Earl Upham We have a friend who's wife and dog were attacked in their back yard when two American Blue Blood Bulldogs broke through their fence and attacked them. Their hunting dog got a broken leg and it's side torn open. Giant Pit Bulls is what they really are. His wife saw the bone in her arm while one of the dogs was pulling so hard on her flesh. Finally they beat the crap out of the dogs to get them off but he said there wasn't any blood on them from that. He says bear spray I say big knife. I know the knife will stop the attack quickly as the bear spray may not work at all. I can't wait to find out the breed and to see pictures of them. That is what we need to see.

  • Laurel Davis key to me is how swift and silent it was. The child didn't cry out, the dogs didn't bark. Sounds like either protection dogs or fighting dogs, most other dogs would bark. The victim was probably incapacitated in seconds--or he would have cried out. And the dogs continued biting an incapacitated victim. Multiple bites after the victim is helpless sounds more like the MO of a fighting dog whose instinct is to kill---trained protection dogs usually bite and hold, normal dogs tend to bite and release.
