Mia Johnson "Pit Bulls are very popular in Pacific Spirit " -- yes they are, Thomas. Here's a photo of Christie Gray's pit bull who killed our therapy dog, photographed proudly off-leash in Pacific Spirit Park near UBC last fall before he killed Yuri. (Even though it came from a dog fighting background - what an excellent choice to let it run off leash in the woods where people jog and families walk their dogs!!) I also have photos of her new pit bull proudly off leash in Pacific Spirit a few weeks ago. This is a place where I have jogged and walked our dogs ON LEASH for 30 years and I take it very personally. Please keep us updated and I will look for more news as well. Thanks.

Just heard on the CBC that Pit Bulls are very popular in Pacific Spirit park near UBC in Vancouver.
Today 2 pit nutters were walking 4 pit bull type dogs, one was off leash, a fight ensued amongst all the mutant undogs with both pit nutters injured, they are both in the Hospital as we speak.
No word Yet on the pit bull type dogs.
More News tonight at Eleven wink emoticon

  • Jeffrey Sloan Darwinian selection. Couldn't happen to more deserving folks, I'm sure
  • Jeffrey Sloan - and what a shock that pit bulls would start doing exactly what they were designed to do - well, at least it always seems to come as a shock to those who admire and promote pit bulls as family pets, but not to anyone who actually understands these purpose bred "working dogs" -

  • Jeffrey Sloan That is as infuriating as it is heartbreaking Mia Johnson -
  • Thomas McCartney The CBC had reports on their 6 pm and 11pm news in Vancouver but nothing online yet. They said it was on the east canyon trail and also mentioned a lady who has two pit bulls who she constantly allows to run off leash there but did not know if she was involved.
  • Mia Johnson Thanks Thomas. I will try to find something online tomorrow. Would you mention it again if you learn any more?
  • Thomas McCartney You can count on it Mia
  • Marc Brown I love it when nutters go out together with their mutants, and those mutants attack each other instead of someone's normal pet or someone's child. I saw it here some time ago. The nutters didn't know what to do...and they were enraged after that no one else had helped them stop their mutants from mauling each other. Full of self-pity that people just stood and watched...the way nutters just stand there and watch when their mutants attack a child or a normal dog.
  • Marc Brown I really think self-pity is the only true emotion these people have.
  • Mia Johnson And self aggrandizement?
  • Marc Brown Hahaha, yes, until the self-aggrandizement collapses into self pity.
  • Mia Johnson God they love the negative attention they provoke don't they? What a vicious, self-fulfilling loop they are in.
  • Thomas McCartney Hummm media blackout, still no word on specifics or any media stories..................very strange.!
  • Mia Johnson I'm trying to find out too and will let you know. I just LOVE it when pit bull owners use Pacific Spirit for off leash dog runs and even training their untrainable dogs! How about this one, "As with most reactive dogs, we have a lot of trouble getting his attention when we’re too close to a trigger." Gee so glad my dog hasn't been by. https://knoxdog.wordpress.com/2015/02/15/reactivity-eyes/

  • Mia Johnson More wisdom from the same owner:

"But one thing’s for sure: Knox is awful at meeting other dogs. Having no idea what his breed mix is [??? Hint: Your blog is sub-titled "A Vancouver rescued pit bull, just learning to get along"], I think we can safel
y assume that he has some sort of herding animal in him as he approaches unknown dogs (especially fluffy ones) at a crawl, getting about 5 meters away and lying super flat, ears down, staring. As the dog reaches 3m proximity, he BOLTS towards the dog. Rude, rude, rude. No fights yet (thankfully) but we need to work on this so much more!"
  • Thomas McCartney I am sure that Vancouver Animal control never patrols it either to ensure leash laws are complied with, i assume Pacific Spirit park has a leash law.At the end of the day in any park one ends up on ones own, no animal control, no police, no parks dept or bylaw dept., you end up having to protect your personal welfare and safety on your own and demand your rights because only you will have your back.
  • Mia Johnson There are a number of trails marked "leash optional" which is nice for the dogs, but no one stops to put the leashes back on when the trails merge with "leash required" trials.
  • Mia Johnson This is all I have found out from a reporter at CBC -- "There was a fight between 4 pit bulls at Pacific Spirit Park on Saturday. Ambulance was sent to the area and two owners went to hospital. One owner had an injured ankle, the other had bites and scratches. One of the pit bulls was off leash, the three others were on." Guess there is quite a lid on any more news.

  • Thomas McCartney Not much is there Mia Johnson, seems to me that most pit bull attacks go the way of this type of stealth reporting. The two nutters are also most likely refusing to speak to the police, SPCA or media as they want to hide this expression of the truth of what the pit bull type dog is.

I love it when I see people who need a pit bull fostered or adopted but say it can be the only dog in the house. Why is that ? Because they will attack other dogs/ people??? Smh
